Dear all,

I would like to get your inputs on building an intranet. I currently have one DNN web server hosted by Hosting.com I use for Document Exchange and Events Calendar modules. But now I need create an intranet that will allow me to:

- to post documents that other people can access and edit, while keeping track of changes, indicating who did the changes, and archiving earlier versions. It would be ideal if two people are automatically precluded from working at the same time, rather than having to remember to lock the file while they have downloaded it and are working on it as I have to do with Document Exchange module.

- to post surveys, that is, questions with closed and open fields, that people may reply to. Ideally, I would want to be able to get the summary of all responses with a click of a button. "Maybe to ambitious :)

- to include distribution lists for messages

Can you point me to the right module or what steps should I consider before creating the intranet.

Thank You.

Sebastian , you seen to be a very reputable member of this community and I mean no offense, but what you are saying is that my project can't be done using DNN platform? knowing all the great modules develop for dnn even without knowing it myself I know there must be something out there I can implement using DNN to achieve my goal.

I personally hate sharepoint and will do everything to avoid using it :)

Jimmy, there are no real alternatives to DMX beside OpenDocuments within DNN Professional. You are describing within your requirements the limitations of both approaches. Sebastian is correct as Sharepoint  (even the free Sharepoint Foundation) might be a suitable solution, together with others like Alfresco...

Jimmy,
of course, an Intranet can be implemented using DNN and there are even modules with document management facilities - but if there is another product designated for this purpose (according to the requirements you mentioned before), I'd rather suggest using it - and DNN for your public Internet web site. A Porsche is a great car - but not, if you have to take your 10 children to school - all one by one ;)
