About User Folders  6.0.1

These have been around for a few versions now but I cannot find any information on how they might be used / are intended to be used.
I am setting up a site with multiple page editors and was wondering if I can rename these to more useful names and set permissions as I need.
Can they be safely deleted or is there a provider of some sort that will then have a problem?
Are part of the planned social networking extensions?

 Thanks

 Ian

the "my folder" concept was added to support the idea of a place where users can automatically have upload permissions - this means that sites dont need to configure upload for basic items such as user profile avatars etc. There are 1 or 2 bugs in the logic that I believe are being worked on for 6.1.0, partly to ensure that they work as expected with the active social integration
