Background:
I am setting up a package where 1 host user will be able to create new portal sites. This person is a non technical person and i would like to keep them out of IIS if possible. I would also like for the portal sites to be parents so that they can either use a sub domain (default) or a new domain.

Is there any known way for automating the creation of the website within IIS and setting the default.aspx document? Should I consider a different approach?

More than likely these 'communities' will be hosted on an ISP like webhost4life, so maybe this isn't even an option?

thoughts?

Levi, you don't need new virtual directories. One virtual directory can host many portals. All you need is a DNS alias that points to the server, then you add a new poral using host->portals and add the new alias.

I'm looking for a new portal, not just a new alias.

basically what i would like to see happen is, click Host->Portals->Add New Portal. Fill out the form, and when parent is selected, a new website is created with that name in IIS, like mychild.myparent.com. If child is selected, then a new vdir would be created, myparent.com/mychild.

if you have a new DNS alias for your server and click Host-Portals->Add new portal you will have a new portal, not a new alias for an old one.

right, that's what i'm looking for. the problem is, that when you create that new portal, you have to go in to IIS and setup the dns for the domain. I'm looking for an automated way to do the dns setup.

sorry if i was not clear in my first post.
