We've been using DNN for some years, but with each release, more bugs and problems surface. Quality assurance and testing appear to be poor. Even this site is not as polished as its rivals. The platform seems to have lost its way and become too fragmented. I would seriously dissuade anyone from using DNN for any critical websites.

I regret our choice and if and when possible, will migrate away from DNN at the earliest opportunity.

I'm sorry you feel that way - I've noticed a couple of quirks with the 7 upgrades, but in general, they have been pretty stable,  compared to the 6 builds which I did find had a bit of pain, but nothing like the 4.3 > 4.5 > 4.6 pains.

As much as there are elements of DNN that frustrate me, I have to say upgrading it, albeit it's a bigger task if you don't manage your own servers, has been pretty good.

I saw your questions regarding the editing - I believe it's the jquery not firing. Not sure how the next version will be any different, but I have had some problems with this particular release.  You are not alone.

And.. I have discovered that all software has problems - if it's not upgrading, it's performance, if it's not that it's security.   DNN is a very solid product but when it has problems it's PITA like everything else.

Jason, what would you use instead?  Are you referring to the DNN open source platform or Evoq?

What would you consider a "DNN Rival"?

What are the most recent issues you have had with DNN?

Each release seems to be buggy or have some caveat that makes transition difficult (e.g. Document Library appears to be broken in v7.2.2 and the switch to jquery 1.9.1 introduces a lot of issues). I expect big changes in major version releases, but not in 'stability and bug fix' releases.

In general it feels like the quality of the product, and any internal testing which occurs prior to a release, has declined since v7. The only thing which I would class as a major improvement and a success has been the re-work of the search engine.

I was perhaps a bit harsh in my opening post, brought about by post-upgrade frustrations. I've been experimenting with WordPress and have been very impressed with the product. It's polished, easy to use and appears to have a larger support base.

If you were to change platforms, would WordPress or Joomla give you what you need?  I've talked to a few people running their business with WordPress and it's a mess.  They are held back, frustrated and usually end up moving to DNN.

DNN is still the best framework available.  What DNN is today and the skins and extensions available for it now are childsplay for what is to come or at least what can be done.

DNN is an advanced framework so you will always find a bug somewhere.  The issues in the upgrades in the recent versions are harsh, I'll agree with you on that.  There are a few major problems in 6.2.x and 7.0.x upgrades for larger corporations but nothing you can't work around since we have the code.

But switch to WordPress?  Unless your just running a simple site, that sounds like a really bad idea. No?
