hey there...

I installed DNN - all looks fine etc. I wanted to build a project-site for a group of people (lets say 7). A site where we could share information, send messages to each profile, also private e-mails, group-mails, use a shared forum and shared calender and stuff that people working on a shared project use - like for instance students at universities or small groups in an organization working on an ongoing solution.

So the question is: is DNN a step forward or should I look elsewhere for a already-made project-cms or is it possible that DNN can handle it?

The reason why I ask the question is that I started to doubt that DNN is created ito solve issues like mine - it seems like DNN is made for portals and websites - not for project-management sites... but maybe i am wrong and just need to install one single module to get all these wonderful features

(Should I mention that I am pretty new to DNN, naaah, wont mention that one...)

yes, it is possible, but you will need additional 3rd party modules. I suggest to look for web solutions, that are more specialized on your needs.

I believe you can set up a very powerful Framework that will cater to your every need. The core modules provide all you will need to set up a project-site. With a small number of users, it should be very simple to configure permissions for access to certain levels of the the framework. I say go with DNN as the community is vast and growing. You will not be disappointed. Best of luck to you and your team!

I agree with Sebastian that you should look for a CMS more suited to your needs. Sharepoint Services is probably where you should go. Sure you could buy/download lots of modules for DNN and probably achieve the same functionality but this is really where Sharepoint shines and the basic functionality of SPSS is free with a windows license. I don't think anyone in the DNN camp can argue with that one. DNN has its strengths but in order to replicate that with DNN its going to require a lot more effort on your part.
