Hi.  I've been posting to another thread (store), but it's turned out to be a more general issue that affects other modules - possibly related to hyperlinks and/or skin and container folder/file names.

The issue is in relation to a much reported error "The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters."

It "appears" that when you click the checkout link in Store, the query string is built up with parameters describing the full path of file names for container & skin.  I think this is where the long URL is coming from.  Previous posts have suggested moving the root folder up the tree - this does have the effect of shortening the path to the skin details, but I believe that the issue is possibly better resolved by one of 2 methods:

1.  Recommending that skin naming conventions are in place to keep the names short
2.  Removing the requirement for the skin details to be passed through in the query string.

I'm relatively new to DNN, but am an experienced developer.  I don't know the inner workings of DNN or why the link would be passing query string params for the skin details - surely the destination control should find this out independently?  In actual fact, only 1 person has substantiated that the values are passed, so I'm not guaranteeing my theory is correct.

I'm posting here in the hope that someone more experienced with DNN or with knowledge of the inner workings (particulary with the checkout link on [modified] store control) will be able to shed some light on this so we can get a decent fix in place.

I'm currently trying to find out how to modify the folders/names of my skins/containers with out breaking anything.  I'm not running source code at this stage and only have 2 live sites, so am not in a position to rush in and change things in the hope that it works.  Anyone with info on best way to do this - would be much appreciated.

Thanks
