Okay - more questions from the newbie!

We are getting very close to launching our new website, and I am quite pleased with the way it's looking and - more importantly - with the way it seems to be working.

Now we need to pound back through the site to make sure we have everything ready for the live date, and that means the final stages of SEO work.

Tags - do I need them on each page, and if so, why?

Keywords - this one is much easier, and we are using our web analytics tools (Google) to make some informed decisions around keyowrds for each page. So - what's the difference between what tags do and keywords?

Sorry to be asking such rudimentary questions. There is so much to all of the this, it's hard to keep it straight - but I'm getting there.

Tags are a way to categorize content on your site, if you're using Tags you would also have a way to display a listing of tags, likely on each page, then people can click the Tags and see other pages tagged with the same content. Most people aren't using Tag functionality in DNN yet. I find tagging works great to get more and more content indexed in different ways, but from an SEO perspective, the keywords are important (though that importance is debatable in the SEO world).

Sorry Chris - I know that this forum is not dedicated to SEO (and thank god for that) but I could not resists - The Importance of meta tags in page ranking on Google

Tags are used a lot in blogosphere (wordpress and company) and I think it was a good move to include them in DNN and not just on the blog level, I think with time there will be more modules that take advantage of this functionality those spreading the use.
