We've created a child portal site, and we're getting a DNN error:

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: The file '/SiteMap.aspx' does not exist. ---> System.Web.HttpException: The file '/SiteMap.aspx' does not exist.

Any ideas?  In the portal directory, that file indeed does not exist (both in the alias directory as well as the numeric portal directory)

I also had the same problem with a missing SiteMap.aspx.

I checked the installations of previous versions and it seems like SiteMap.aspx has been removed from the install since version 05.06.00.
I cannot find any comment in the relese comments about the removal of these files so it's not clear to me if this is a bug.
Although I do not know why these files are no longer availabe, for a quick fix you can try to copy the fils
- SiteMap.ascx and
- SiteMap.aspx.vb
from a previous version (for example 05.05.01) to your site.

Can anyone tell me why these files are no longer available in the install?

I've just updated our dev server from 5.6.0 to 5.6.1 and it seems to have corrected the issue. I'll wait a few days before I update prod, but I'm hopeful the same fix will "magically" happen. Note: I did not see a sitemap issue listed as an item in the release notes: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2946/DotNetNuke-5-6-1-Released.aspx

When the site was 5.6.0 there were entries in the web.config file for handling the sitemap file, but Sitemap.aspx was returning the httpexception. I did find this forum post that pointed me to the web.config: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/198/postid/400158/scope/posts/Default.aspx#400158 Those entries in the web.config did not seem to change in the upgrade to 5.6.1
