Hi,

Need help on the following:-

Are all the documents and images uploaded to the site, stored on the file system of the web server? Is it in any way later synchronized with the database? This will help with disk space sizing for my potiential site.

Is it recommended to have a file server in a web farm setup? In the documentation on the web farm setup, it mentioned the web root will point to the unc share on this remote file server, hence that means the web server need not have catered for the disk space required, but capacity planning needs to be on the file server and the file server should have redundancy in case of failure?

How then do content staging works here? It will be smart enough to know how to publish a staged content to production?

Can DFS in Windows 2008 do the work, so that a file server in this instance will not be required?

Appreciate any replies on the above. Thks.

Regards
Pixie

In a webfarm setup, the website file system must be stored in a UNC accessible path.  This UNC  file path can be located anywhere in your webfarm installation.  There is nothing magical about this path - its just a path to a folder on a hard drive.

DNN has only limited native content staging in the community edition.  And this limited content staging is only supported in the HTML module, as such this means many modules like the media/gallery/events/documents/announcements modules are LIVE only modules.
There is no native support for staging from a development server to a production server.

The DNN professional edition, has more extensive content staging for the HTML module.  It also includes enhanced webfarm support with a superior caching system to that found in the community edition.

In addition, the DNN enterprise edition, has development server to production staging support.

Thks Westa.

Sorry, wasn't clear in my post, we would be going with DNN enterprise edition as only this has advanced content staging.

So am I right to say that for static content, we need to estimate the amount of diskspace required on disk and for dynamic content, we estimate the amount of disk storage required for database?

For web farm do we need a hardware load balancer, can the software NLB function in Windows 2008 do the job?
