I have been doing alot of reading and as ExecuteScalar is an option to get a single value Im not sure how to implement this. So I will show you an example in all the files.

SqlDataProvider
Overrides Function GetValue(ByVal ModuleId As Integer, ByVal UserId As Integer) As String
    Return CType(SqlHelper.ExecuteScalar(ConnectionString, GetFullyQualifiedName("GetValue"), ModuleId, UserId), String)
End Function

DataProvider
Public MustOverride Function GetValue(ByVal ModuleId As Integer, ByVal UserId As Integer) As String

Controller File

Public Function CheckReg(ByVal ModuleId As Integer, ByVal UserId As Integer) As String

    Return DataProvider.Instance().CheckReg(ModuleId, UserId)
End Function

Example Page Codebehind
Dim objExample As New ExampleController
Dim MyString As String

MyString = objExample.GetValue(ModuleId, UserId)
lblMyString.Text = MyString.ToString

My output
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I have a feeling I need the CBO but I am uncertain how to use it as this is not a collection of information its a single value returned from a stored procedure.

Suggestions??

Is there a work around to pulling a single value from a SQL table? I need to pull a single value from a table to see if such a row of data exists (return 1 or 0) and use that value to compare to perform another function or not (based on weather or not that record exists) suggestions?
