Hello everybody.

I´m a complete novice from Spain. I´ve just installed DotNetNuke Community and my first calling for help will surely sound simple, but..Can I just build my site locally and then load everything via FTP to a host (asp.net capable)? Is that how it works?

Thanks in advance to anyone providing orientation.

You can install the DNN files using FTP - BUT most of the content in a dnn site is driven by the database.  So you also need a way to backup your local sql database and install it onto your remote server.  This is something you will need to ensure is possible for your hosting service.

At PowerDNN we offer a free migration with a new account.  You simply ftp your files (httpdocs folder and SQL database backup file) and then our technicians will migrate the site for you.  We have built a custom service tool that migrates the site files with a few mouse clicks.

I like using the backup and restore module from Evotiva. It simplifies the process and sets the portal alias on the server. Read the instruction for the restore pack. Basically you install the module on your local site, run the backup. Then load the restore pack files into the root of your web server directory. Upload the zip backup to the backup folder within the restore pack and run the wizard. You'll need and empty DB on the server as well.
