Hi,

I have located and updated the main icon used at the top of a page in the DNN community issue.

Where I uploaded a new icon, a couple of lines below was the spot for uploading a new favicon icon - so have uploaded my own version there too.

You would think that ought to be enough to get rid of the DNN icons - but nope - there is still one in a box on the menu bar for the site - to the right of the menu tabs. It is in the search box there and if you click on the icon it lets you choose between a site limited search or a www search.

I have searched the superuser manual and the user manual - with no suiccess at finding what I should change. It is not the icon in the search input module - that is not being used. It may well be something defined as part of the darknight skin that is used by default in the community download - but I can't find anything under either the admin or host functions that lets me look at and edit that skin.

I don't know why it is easy to fix the other icons but so hard to track down the final one. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Regards, Shane

The icons are indeed in the DarkKnight skin.  If you replace the skin, there will be no more DNN Icons.

If you replaced your favicon, there is a 'correct' way to do it if you want to run different icons for different portals.

See here for more details: Setting the favicon for dotnetnuke

Thanks Bruce - at least you confirm I am looking at the right area.

However, I have used the downloaded website and modified some of the pages like home and aboutus which use the darknight skin in order to create my own website. So the issue for me is how do I go about modifying the skin for my portal (bearing in mind I have only been using DNN for two weeks).

I do find it strange that the product is easily configurable for the main icon and for the favicon - but very difficult for the icon in the skin based search box.

Regards, shane

Having posted the problem on the Forum related to skins, I have been given information that enabled me to change the icon image displayed. The bit of the file admin/Skins/Search.ascx.cs that needed to be changed was the definition of the _siteiconURL string. Without making any changes to the file the strng is defined but not set to a value. Instead, I set it to:

private string _siteIconURL = "~/Portals/0/favicon.ico";

Which is where I found that my uploaded favicon went when I used the site settings facility for setting that.

With that change, my web page no longer has any DNN images showing.

Further feedback on the Skins section of the forum indicated that my solution worked, but had some drawbacks - being applied to all portals for that DNN installation and needing to be repeated if the DNN installation is ever upgraded.

I took out my fix and updated the following line of the 2-Column-Right-Mega-Menu.ascx file in the folder Portals/_Default/Skins/DarkNight to add the siteIconURL bit at the end of the line.

<dnn:SEARCH ID="dnnSearch" runat="server" UseDropDownList="true" EnableTheming="true" Submit="Search" siteIconURL="~/Portals/0/favicon.ico" />
