Hi Mark,

As the other Mark said, it does gets easier. When I started using DNN nearly three ago I didn't have a clue, it's just a matter of learning as you go.

If you have not already done so, do check out the Video Library here http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Video-Library.aspx

Good luck!

Pingle,

I wish it was getting easier.  I am still struggling with this skin issue.  I installed a menu box program as they suggested, and still nothing.  No skin  and no menu.  I needed the menu, so I thought it was good.  Can you suggest a skin and menu system that you know works?  I can't use the Dark Knight simply becuase it doesn't format the way I want it to.  For example, it I can't adjust the size of the columns (panes).

God Bless,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Could you go to Host > Extensions > Installed Extensions tab, scroll down and expand Skins, does your skin show up in there? If not, then it is not installed. If so, could you explain the steps you took to install it. Which skin is it that you are trying to install?

We need to sort out why you are having these problems as installing a skin is (or should be) really quite straightforward. I have installed quite a few in my time without any problem (except where I haven't bothered to read the supplied Read Me file).

If you want to make changes to skins, then you are going to have to learn about 'skinning'. Check out the skinning videos here http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Video-Library/CategoryId/2/Skinning.aspx (start with the 'Basic DotNetNuke Skinning' video). Don't worry if the videos display the old DNN 5 UI, the principles are the same for DNN 6.

As to a menu, which menu are you currently using? I mostly use the DDR Menu module but it's not the easiest module to work with but does dynamically add/remove new pages as and when created/deleted. If you are just after a straightforward page links menu listing, you could try the core Links module (http://dnnlinks.codeplex.com/releases/view/70414) but you need to manually add/remove page links. I also use DNNGO's vLinks module mostly when needing to categorise links but has the usual treeview mode etc. There are a few around. Depends what you want it for.

Again, hope that helps!

Pingle,

You said:

My response:
Yes it does.  There is also a folder for it in the same folder as the _Default skin folder.

You said:

My response:
Colorbox

My response:
I watched on yesterday, and I had already seen how to install previous to that.  In fact I installed a couple module prior to the skins without a problem.

You said:

My response:
The one that installs with DNN.  I am guessing it is part of the DarkKnight skin.  I installed one called MenuBox but I don't see that anywhere.  The colorbox people told me it is a portal that I need to run their app.  I don't need colorbox, I just wanted to try it out.  Now I weary of purchasing and even installing another package.  I don't know the effect of installing many extentions.

I am also having a problem seeing image that I uploaded to my web.  I uploaded a logo last week which I can see, but any other images do not show up in the image manager tool.  I wanted to add an image next to my logo, but combined them into one image and overwrote the existing logo.

I am thinking that my installation is faulty somehow.  It is on a remote site, which I thought would take care of my installation issues.  I had tried to install DNN on tree local machines without success.

Thanks for your time and help and God Bless,

Mark

Pingle,

I meant to tell you my objective. I want a site to present videos, but using embedded links, not uploads. I need a system to catagorize the videos and present them singly on a page. After I accomplish that I will look to expand functionality. If you or anyone else has product suggestions to accomplish that, I would appreciate them. Once I get the feel for DNN and become proficient, I want to apply it to other sites and domains that I have.

God Bless,

Mark
