Hi there!

I'm absolutely new on DNN and I'm in charge of figuring out how a existing site on DNN works and manage it the same time.

Client asked me an easy way, as administrator, to load a XLS or XLSX file on a table on SQL Server. Do you know which extension does that? Or I'll need to develop one to do that?

Thanks in advance!

Lucas Bracher.

Lucas,

welcome to the DNN community!

Loading an XLS(X) file to an SQL server is not a big thing, but the question is: What do you want to do with the data?

If you want to display and/or edit them, you should have a look at the Form and List module. This allows exporting and importing to/from Excel (or at least CSV files afair). But you should look how exported files look like and prepare your data to get imported correctly.

Happy DNNing!
Michael

Hi Michael! Thanks for answering!

The aim here is to load XLS data to an existing table on SQL Server.

The way the client uses now to make this load is through an SQL form, and in order to do it, he needs to convert XLS file to CSV, and then pass this CSV to a script that converts it to SQL, and then pass this SQL file to SQL Form for processing. What he wants is just an 1-step procedure, that would take only the XLS file.

As far as I have read, I didn't notice if Form and List is able to directly read XLS files or if it's able to write on an existing table on SQL Server. Could you help me to light up this issue for me?

Thanks in advance! :)

Lucas.

Lucas,

in this case I would recommend to create a simple module that uploads the XLSX file and appends it to the existing table. Shall the data be displayed in any way to visitors of the website, or what is the exact purpose?

SQL Server is delivered with a little tool called "Import and Export data" that is able to transfer data from Excel to an SQL table - if your client has access to the SQL server, maybe this one is helpful...

If not and if you are not familiar with module programming send me a private message.

Best wishes
Michael
