This is a bit off topic, but thought it might be helpful.

Finally gave up fighting it and decided to switch to Wordpress for blogging. WP requires MySql, however I noticed that things slow down dramatically when the two Sql's are running.

The box is pretty hefty Win2003 with 4 G of RAM.

I know about enough to be dangerous, but it seems to me that this is not an optimum situation and would be better off having MySql running on a separate box.

Any thoughts?

SQL Server typically assumes it's the only server level product on the server and optimistically reserves areas of memory so it has RAM in the case of it requiring it. This is an intent only lock so it does get reduced if another application requires it, but this does cause a slight slowdown (it's for this reason you should not run IIS on the same machine as SQL). I would suspect that MySQL may have a similar outlook and this retaining/releasing/requesting memory cycle is part of your isue.

Thanks. That said, for less than $10 a month, getting a godaddy account to host the WP blog makes sense.

taking into account, that WP requires additionally installation of MySQL, PHP etc. separation of both applications on different systems sounds best for me regarding performance, maintenance and security - especially for this small extra price.
