Hi. I have a builte a new site.  It keeps getting System.OutOfMemoryException errors. I ask the host on their live chat to look at it, they go away and come back saying to try again, after which it works again. I am wondering if it is the site or their server.  I assume they are just restarting a service.  The site is at: http://adima-group.com.webserver1.ukd...

Two points. Firstly when I built it, I was completely new to DNN, so selected to install the majority of modules. Does DNN load modules into memory even if they aren't being used in pages on the site?

Secondly, when I quizzed the host about the problem, they said that I needed to recompile the code and reupload to the server. Forgive me if I'm being naive, but is this not a load of rubbish?  Surely the only people who compile code are the DNN developers?  Or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance,
Nick.

My guess is that they are recycling your application pool and the site is coming back up.

What type of hosting plan are you on?  Do you know what memory limitations they put on for the site?

in general uninstall any unused modules, as they consume space in the bin folder, get loaded into the app space and can consume RAM. the wiki has some performance best practices advice at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Performance_best_practices/Default.aspx . Regarding the recompilation, there is no need to recompile DotNetNuke, all modules are already compiled, and the rest of the site will auto backgground compile when necessary (eg. WSP modules that live in the app_code folders)
