We have a site localized in 5 languages, and we managed to get everything working.  But when  we generated "SiteMap.aspx" using the "Admin/Search Engine SiteMap" function, we realized that it's doing some CRAZY stuff.  Basically, when using Admin/Pages, I can see all the pages lined up separately by Language, and they all look perfect.  But the "coreSitemapProvider" generates URL's with all kinds of non-existent page versions.

For example, if you have English page and its translated German copy, it makes sense to have 2 URLs - one for each language, right?  Wrong - you will also get an additional version of each of those URLs like .../language/de-DE/Default.aspx for english page, and ../language/en-US/Default.aspx for German page, which will be a wierd combinatiopn of English menu + German content and vice versa.

Unless I am doing something wrong, this is a SERIOUS problem !   We are running on version 5.6.1

Here's the actual example -- HOME is the name of the English homepage, STARTSEITE is the name of the German homepage. I get URLs generated for five (5!!!) versions of each homepage page - WHY?
.. /HOME/tabid/62/language/en-US/Default.aspx
.../HOME/tabid/62/language/es-MX/Default.aspx
../HOME/tabid/62/language/fr-FR/Default.aspx
../HOME/tabid/62/language/ru-RU/Default.aspx
.../HOME/tabid/62/language/de-DE/Default.aspx

.../STARTSEITE/tabid/133/language/en-US/Default.aspx
.../STARTSEITE/tabid/133/language/es-MX/Default.aspx
.../STARTSEITE/tabid/133/language/fr-FR/Default.aspx
.../STARTSEITE/tabid/133/language/ru-RU/Default.aspx
../STARTSEITE/tabid/133/language/de-DE/Default.aspx

The sitemap is showing that you have five languages configured for your site not two.

That is correct, 5 languages - I just didn't want to pollude the space here.. In fact, 5 languages produce 25 (!) URLs instead of 5, because SiteMap generates those WIERD combinations of non-existent versions of each page (5 sets of 5 = 25).

Basically, the SiteMap tool produces additional combinations of URLs, mixing up menu and page "cultures". So you end up with things like 5 URLs with English menu + 4 non-English versions of the homepage instead of just one English homepage URL. So the number of URLs in SiteMap.aspx is 5 times higher than it should be, because of all those useless "combinations" .
