We don't have a real DBA at our company and trying to understand what I should be running nightly, weekly, monthly to keep the database running at top perfomance.  Rebulding indexes, cleaning up log files etc.  Thanks Chris

FYI there are some performance tips at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W... that should be helpful - in general I recommend users set up a standard maintenance plan and it will keep the database in good shape -if you havent used maintenance plans before then the maintenance plan wizard is probably all you need - heres a short video which should help - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85tQj6...

As for additional scripts, this came up recently and I created a wiki page for it - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W... (note: use with caution as any database updates can cause undesired side-effects)

Thanks for the web clips. Going to take it for a spin on our testing server for a little bit so I can understand what is going on. Do you just set and forget or anything to keep and eye our for? Just a little worried about doing something that might make a mess.

most people just fire-and-forget, however it can be an idea to set the email reporting option just in case an issue happens (e.g. you run out of harddrive space) http://www.techbubbles.com/sql-server/creating-maintenance-plans-in-sql-server-2008-r2/ (on that note, it's not uncommon to write a script [dos/powershell] to copy the backups to a different server in case the server dies (or alternatively set the backup location to be a different machine)
