Thanks for sharing the article. I think anytime we're shrinking the amount of data travelling from the server to the client will help tremendously.

To get more speed, you can also install Revindex Optimizer (free) to completely remove the ViewState blob from your pages so that it renders up to 50% faster. You can read more about how ViewState affects performance here.
