I added the file manager module to a page that only certain registered users can view.  I have one folder with many subfolders in it.  I need to be able to have the registered users add and delete files from this one main folder and all the subfolders in it.  For both the main folder and all the subfolders, in the folder permissions I gave them read and write permission.  The users are able to view the folder and all the subfolders and documents but they cannot add or delete files.  What am I missing?  I figured if they had write access, they'd be able to do both of these, but those options are greyed out.

You probably need to grant those users Edit permission for the Module as well.  (I know that if you're in View Mode of the File Manager, the Upload button is unavailable.)

Agh, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that because then they are able to grant permissions for other people or give themselves permissions to other folders that I don't want them to have access to.  But if that's the only way that they are able to add/delete files in the file manager, is there a different way they can add/delete files?

AFAIK, file manager module has not been enhanced yet to allow delegation of file management. You may consider using a 3rd party module for this purpose.
