Hello:

I would like to write a C# httphandler for some PDF/FDF work I need to do.  How can I plug this into DNN?  Thank you!

you just write a httphandler as normal, but to include it in an extension you use the Config component to automatically add/remove web.config entries - see the wiki at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Manifest-Component-Installers-The-Config-Component/Default.aspx

Cathal,

I have created two handlers for a module I created for an estate agent (Real Estate), one to handle images, so that images are returned optimized (size wise) for their required dimensions and another that returned pdf reports for the individual properties, these reports are stored in the database and either generated on the fly if its a first time request after record modification (then stored in the db) or directly from the database if the record hasn't changed since the report was last requested.

Now here's the thing, until last week both of these handlers were working perfectly, now only the image handler is working, the pdf handler now returns a 404 message to the client or a very nice insight into the workings of the URL rewrite module when I checked it at the server. So... I hear you ask, what changed last week? I upgraded to 5.6. Seems very odd that only one of the handlers no longer works, any ideas?

Rob,
Have you confirmed that the handlers are both still registered in the web.config file?

Rob,

That's a consequence of the upgrade to 5.06.00 and the changes that were made to the UrlRewriteModule to support automatic portal alias mapping. Check your PortalAlias table for extra entries. I suspect that there will be some there for the handler that is no longer working. Some of these un-intended effects were fixed in the recently released 5.06.01 but I'm not certain that an upgrade will take care of this issue for you.

I would be especially interest in knowing what is different between the url's being processed by the two handlers in determining why one continues to work and the other does not. In particular, is the TabID or PortalID being passed in the querystring to one and not the other?
