I have tried using the "hyperlink manager" and just entering the link into the html code, and every time I hit save, the link gets shortened/changed and I do not want it to.

 Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

which DNN version are you using and which editor provider (see Host > HTML Editor configuration in DNN 6 or web.config in previous versions).

I cannot find the Host button...

Host is only availible on the ribbon bar on the top if you logged in with a user that is Superadmin (portal admin) and should viewed right beside the Admin buttom.

So can only the "superadmin" user edit hyperlinks? What if I cant find the host login information, will I not be able to edit this kind of info? I can edit basic content and images with just a regular admin user login...
