I am experiencing a very strange issue with posts from a forum in one portal “leaking” into the other and vice versa. This happens when using Active Forums.

Here is what happens:

There is a post on domain 1 here:

http://www.domain1.com/Forum/tabid/100/view/topic/postid/642.aspx

The DNN installation also has another portal at www.domain2.com

The problem is that the following link shows the exact same forum message and conversation in domain 2 at this link:

http://www.domain2.com/Forum/tabid/100/view/topic/postid/642.aspx

In other words is seems that active forums doesn’t check the portal id of a post and simply shows it in both domains.

Here is another example
http://www.domain1.com/Forum/view/topics/forumid/8.aspx
This works fine and shows the appropriate forum.

http://www.domain2.com/Forum/view/topics/forumid/8.aspx
Now the problem is that this shows the forum that belongs to domain1 in domain2!!!!

The real problem is this is picked up by googlebots and is leading to duplicate content in the index as well as making a website to show totally unrelated forum content to its subject in google index, custom search, etc.

I am running Active Forums 3.7 on DNN 5.6.3

Please advise on how to fix this, if this also happens in later versions or if there has been a fix in some version of Active Forums.

Thanks in advance.

Henry

did you manually modify tabmodules table by adding a reference to a forum from a different website into your other site? besides the modules should be clearly separated (unless you are using Shared modules, which have been introduced in DNN 7).

Hi Sebastian.

No, I have not added anything to tabmodules. As far as I think the modules must be separate. An Active Forum module was added to a tab in each domain and customised accordingly with no reference to the other. Not using shared module. The DNN is 5.6.3.

Thanks

Hi Spline,
It seems that your module is not checking the PortalId while posting the forum posts.

Better you, should try to uninstall the module from both the portals and again install that. It may fix the issue.

Thanks,

Thanks Avinash for the tip. But both forums are in active use and are live. I fear uninstalling them will delete the data or disrupt the process. This is also the kind of issues you cannot test on a local machine, so feel sort of stuck.
