I have an Announcement module on my home page (DNN 7.2.1) - which was where that module started.  I have "copied" that module using "Add Existing" to another page.  When I use search, it (probably reasonably) returns a link to the home page, although I can't work out how it knows that.  However, for various reason (for example I have different "History" settings, the shorter period being the home page) I would prefer that it actually returned a link to the secondary page.  How does search "know" that the Announcement module originated on the home page and can I fool it into using the secondary page as the target for its links?

What would happen if I deleted the original module from the home page and then re-created it as a copy of the module on the secondary page? Do I risk losing all my Announcements?

What would happen if I created a new announcement module on the Secondary page, found out its ID (fairly easy to do) and changed all the relevant announcements in the old module to that ID, then deleted the old module and created a copy of the new module on the home page?

Thanks in advance

In looking through the code it looks like we only index a module one time, no matter how many pages it may appear on. This might be the correct behavior for some use-cases, and the wrong behavior in others.

[EDIT]The solution in your case would be to delete the module from the home page (and remove it from the recycle bin).  Then copy it from the second page back onto the home page.  This ensures that the second page is ordered ahead of the home page in the search order which will then ensure it is the page indexed for this content.

The correct solution is to go to the homepage version of the module. Open ModuleSettings and uncheck the "Allow Indexing" option.  This will force the search engine to index the next page where the module occurs.  This ensures you don't potentially lose any settings or content.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the quick and definitive reply. I did try the delete, purge and re-add option and that worked, but I prefer your "exclude from search" solution and will implement that in live.

Nick
