@ Tony Henrich

For the Ventrian Newsartciles we have only 1 reason why we had to switch to another module.
It doesn't provide a good friendly url in combination with advanced friendly url of DNN.

Specification for the alternative of Ventrian newarticles:

  • Friendly url;
  • Clean interface!!! (also for admin);
  • Responsive;
  • Templates (in portal folder);
  • Tokens/placeholder;
  • Categories;
  • Rating/comments;
  • E-mail notifications;
  • Top post/latest module;
  • Multilanguage;
  • Workflow;
  • Social media upload;
  • Custom fields (incl. image/file upload);
  • Dynamic Input form for admin (disable unused fields, sort order, etc);
  • Import for Ventrian items;
  • Export newsitems to mailchimp (pre);

I know it's a lot but this is what we need and ofcourse the module should look good (clean interface without all the colors)  and perform well! Interface should be like the DNNsharp modules!

Willem, did you try Mandeeps Live Article? They do everything you listed but the Mailchimp thing.

@Sebastian.

Thanks - I just read that post from Joe. It's great to hear that DNN is going to keep supporting a web forms version of DNN for a while. Hopefully that will make transitions as easy and smooth as possible.

I'm just in a frustrating position (through no fault of anybody, of course) where I'd like to start a major new long-term thing in the next few months. I suspect that the smart thing to do will be to build it on the coming DNN 8 and make heavy use of SPA modules when possible. That way, transitioning to "new" DNN in a few years will hopefully be easier.

I have a lot of faith in the DNN team to handle this all well - they have a great track record of being smart and conservative with major changes... which is why I've used DNN for many projects. I'm confident that if I do a decent job separating my code, the backend libraries will transition just fine. And, I know that the more I make use of SPA or MVC modules, the less pain there will be in transitioning the UI stuff.

All that's a long way to say - thanks DNN.

Like many here I have multiple sites using NA, SG & PA for a wide range of features and, like many here, am looking at alternatives now that Scott has become "disconnected" and updates have effectively stopped.

I was always a little sceptical of the low priced business model used as I could not see how it provided enough profit to properly support and develop what has become a very large code-base but, Scott managed it for ages and so like many here I kept the faith.

The problem needs some certainty!
We really need (deserve) a statement from Scott on his intentions.  The Ventrian support forums tell us nothing we can work from.

Many of us will soon have to make our chosen changes and without some indication from Scott we are making decisions without enough information.

I suspect that even if the code was made OS or even bought by another developer the work / time to bring it all up-to date might be better spent on building new modules from scratch?

Personally - I am about to start testing alternatives,  in my head I know I am going to move but in my heart I would love it if Ventrian modules can be brought back to life.
