Is there currently a way to remove the controls at the bottom of the list view (Month view, Week view, List View) so that a consolidated view can be displayed in a column less that 200px wide.  I am testing with the new beta version.   Kudos to the team on the great new features.

The view options are control actions of the module. I think if you create a module container without an ancherpoint for the module actions, you can achive this.

Ernst Peter is right, they are control actions of the container. If you don't need the container, you can always untick 'Display Container' in module settings, and they will disappear then as well.
