I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone had suggestions for performance related to the Events Module.  We just upgraded DNN from 5.x to 6.x and we also upgrade to the latest DNN Events module of 6.0.4.  My main calandar page used to load pretty quick, now it takes about 5 seconds to load.  Any tips and how to increase the performance.  All other pages on the site load pretty well except for the one with the events calandar on it.  Here's the page in question...

Thanks,

Hi Dan,

You could potentially remove the tooltips since that will be substantially adding to the page payload, a quick check shows that the calendar payload is abotu 500k (without graphics) whilst your home page is 50k. This can also be validated by paging backwards and forwards through the months. February is quick, December is slow.

You could potentially look at this analysis which shows that downloading the data is taking most of your page load time - or I think that is what it shows.....

Roger...thanks for the tips.

Yes the other months don't have many (or any) events scheduled on them so that does prove why it's quicker.  We've always had the tooltips on before and we didn't experience this performance issue with the Events module.

I could attempt to do some page caching, but thats normally not a good idea with this module as we don't want old data.

Is there a way to use the tooltips still by defer them from being loaded right away?

Dan

The module isn't designed to delay tooltips, so I don't think that can be done currently. I'd be interested to know whether the payload has changed with the latest versions of the module. I don't think there should be a change in database performance, what specific version were you on before? Also are you able to run a SQL Analyzer again a page load on that page to see if there is any slow running?

Thanks
Roger

I just did a little digging into the SQL calls it is making, and there really isn't much there, unless you have your module configured in some way, but it maybe that some other change in feature set is causing an issue, so would be good to know what version you upgraded from.

Cheers
