I get this error on many places, like when i try to add a page, or when i try to add the HTML module to some existing page.

If you didn't get any errors on upgrade, I would try going to "Host" -> "Host Settings" and clicking "Restart Application".  See if that resolves the issue.

Otherwise, you will want to review the logs to be 100% sure that upgrade items loaded successfully.

Joe, I am not aware of a different connection string format, i.e. if both (uncommented) connection strings in web.config file do not match location of the database, there must be e.g. an install package applied, which overwrote your web.config with default version.
While upgrading from DNN 6 to DNN 7, make sure, Database Compatibility Level is set to 100 or above (use maximum value for best performance).
