We currently have a site using 4.8.2 that we need to upgrade due to the security problems (hacking of default.aspx, uploads to root, etc).

What is the best upgrade path, to latest 4.9.5 or jump to 5.5?

What issues might we face going to 5.x and what issues are there staying with 4.9.5?

you should immediately upgrade to 4.9.5 (you may follow my upgrade check list: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/AboutDotnetNuke/V3V4TippsTricks/Upgradedurchführen.aspx) and may consider afterwards whether you'd like continue upgrading to 5.5.0

Go directly to 5.5.1, i would recommend because of new Oracle Padding issues.

I thought I would be the only one still running a 4.8.2 site. So, what did you end up doing? Any advice you have to pass along from your experience would be helpful.
