Hi all,

First upgrade comin' up!

I've read Chris's excellent guide.

I'm running the Community edition, 5.5.1 - it says on the Extension tab.

I want to skip the last upgrade, and go straight to the latest.  I assume this is supported?  (Do I need to do both?).

My main question though, is following the guide, there are two main upgrade options.  I want to proceed with the second option - create a new IIS site and repository.

So I'll copy the old repository to the new, apply the upgrade.  Simple.

My question is, do I need to do the "app_offline" rename thing?  I don't really see the point so far - as the new repository won't become live until it's all done and working.

Cheers,  Duncan.

Well I've gone ahead and done it.

But I don't think it's worked.

I skipped step 7 - don't that that should be in the docs "Configure IIS for a new website with a host header for upgrade.dnndocs.net" ???

It's been sitting on the same screen for about 20 minutes now...

That's all I've got.

Any help appreciated.  Duncan.

sorry, Duncan, but you CANNOT upgrade from 2.1.2 to 5.6.1 in a single steps (skipping 5 years of DNN history ;)) I suggest upgrading via DNN 3.2.3, 4.3.7, 4.6.2, 4.9.5 and 5.4.4. you may follow my upgrade check list: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx

Jeez, many thanks Sebastian, I *think* you may have cracked it for me. Yes, I do run an old 2.12 version of DNN. Still running. Hence I'm manually updating those old site to new. So I *think* what's happened is that I've backed up and restored the wrong database (don't quite know how I did that - as I'm sure I picked the DNNV5up db. But obviously not! ) Cheers, will retry with the 5.5.1 DB - and see how we get on this time :) Duncan.

Gee that looks better :) - thanks again Sebastian - scary! - I had no backup of my DNNV551 DB - as I had backed up the old 'Dotnetnuke' db my mistake (DNN V 2.12) :) (actually, I have, on the main server backup).
