The Telerik.Web.U.dll file version was 2010.2.929.35.  I looked in the \bin foler of the unzipped 5.6.2 folder, and Telerik.Web.U.dll file is NOT there!

So I copied it from the Telerik_05.06.02_Install.zip file into the /bin folder, and ran the upgrade.  I got errors, so I looked into the web.config and replaced the old line there with yours (stating the new version):
<bindingRedirect oldVersion="2008.0.0.0-2020.0.0.0" newVersion="2010.03.1317.35" />

I restarted the app, and it ran the upgrade and started working after that.

Thank you for your help!

I ran into this exact same problem today while upgrading a site from DNN 5.6.0 to 5.6.2. The problem was that /bin/DotNetNuke.Web.dll is trying to call the wrong version of the Telerik.Web.UI.dll, which really was 2010.2.929.35. Basically the way we fixed it was to just re-upload the old copy of the DotNetNuke.Web.dll to the /bin folder. Everything worked fine after that.

Selfnet,
I have updated two sites from DNN 5.6.1 to DNN 5.6.2 without an issue.  However, on a third site I got the exact same  compilation error "BC32206: The project currently contains references to more than one version of Telerik.Web.UI, a direct reference to version 2010.2.929.35 and an indirect reference (through 'DotNetNuke.Web.UI.WebControls.DnnWindowManager') to version 2010.3.1317.35. Change the direct reference to use version 2010.3.1317.35 (or higher) of Telerik.Web.UI".

In the upgrade log under Optional Modules I got this error --> Installing Package File Telerik_05.06.02_Install:  Error! (I did not get any error messages on the other upgrades).  I tried replacing the Telerik dll in the Install/module folder but I could not get the site to come up.

I am working in a test environment so I am going to simply start over and see if I can get this to work because there isn't anything different with this site from the ones that did work. I know the telerik loading during upgrades has been an issue, but in the past it has not caused the site from coming up, so I have simply loaded the telerik install package through host --> extensions but if you can't get the site up you can't do that.

I will let you know if it works on a second try.

I went to the DNN 5.6.2 INSTALLl package and copied the file  Telerik_05.06.02_Install, which can be found in the Install/module folder of the site that I was upgrading.  Then based on the information in this post I modified the web.config to contain  <bindingRedirect oldVersion="2008.0.0.0-2020.0.0.0" newVersion="2010.03.1317.35" />  The problem was that the newVersion was "2010.2.929.35" - so as previous people have said when I get the upgrade error ( Installing Package File Telerik_05.06.02_Install:  Error!) the web.config was not updated.

I made these two changes and now my site come upi.

Thank you to all who posted on this issue - it saved me from starting all over!

Judy

Judy and Selfnet -

Do either of you happen to have a <location . . . > element(s) in the site's web.config file?
