I have a small DNN deployment that hosts only one portal.  It is currently on version 6.0.0.  I'm trying to upgrade DNN to 6.1.2.  The upgrade goes smoothly but when I try to access the site after the upgrade, the title of the home page appears in the browser tab but then never loads the page and starts an infinite redirect loop.  I've tried the upgrade on a few different servers to test with and it does the same thing.  One server is running Windows Server 2003 (IIS6) with .Net 4.0 and the other is Windows Server 2008 (IIS7) with .Net 4.0.  I've searched for a few hours online and I'm not finding anything.

Thoughts anyone?

If you used the upgrade package I am sure there was any permission issues on running the upgrade.

If you used the the installpackage, there can be also a permission issue on upgrading, or you have override the web.config file with a new one.  Overriding the web.config file directly on extracting the install package to your DNN folder, makes your dnn corrupt.

Install package have to be extract on an unised folder and the new web.config file have to modified, with all the settings from the existing web.config file e.g. both connection strings, install date, maschine key, databaseOwner settings!

Best practice for an upgrade is the use of the upgrade package, after you have made a Backup of the database and your dnn files.

It could be, that after a upgrade a Application pool restart is needed (could also be an iisreset).

The first thing to do in the case of a terminal loop is to ascertain what type of terminal loop you're dealing with.

The best way to do this is to trace with Fiddler or a similar tool.  This will tell you if you have a 301 or 302 loop, and will give other information which will lead to the answer.  There are countless reasons/ways you can end up in a loop, so the first thing to do is to check what the loop is.

I used the upgrade package and didn't run into any reported issues.  I've tried restarting the app pool and IIS with no luck.  I'm trying to use Fiddler to look at the traffic but all I'm seeing is HTTP 200's over and over again.  So, perhaps it isn't truly a redirect loop.

Also, to see the issue for yourself, my test site should be published to the web at http://testsite.i-consystems.com.

Thanks!
