I have just upgraded from 5.6.3 to 6.1.5. The 2nd attempt went OK (thank heaven for backups!) apart from a few minor errors. However the 1st time took down IIS and forced a server restart. I must say that I have yet to have a smooth upgrade with DNN. I would be grateful if anyone can let me know why this might have happened. I have attached the status report and obviously the last entry is where it really went wrong. All the errors at the end took about 1-2 minutes each to appear on the page, suggesting perhaps a permissions problems, although i used all the same settings the 2nd time round. Thanks

the first thing i would check is that the user your site runs under has modify rights from the root of the website down -in particular on web.config (also check and make sure it's not marked as readonly). The reason I ask this is that the failing items are all extensions that attempt to update web.config which suggests your permissions are not correct (perhaps they're only read -they should be "modify")

I had this EXACT issue and had to roll back and do the patches manually.

This is the email i sent to godaddy in response.

Hello folks at GoDaddy.
This is not a suggestion but rather a corrective action request.
I recently tried to upgrade my version of DNN (DotNetNuke) 5.6.3 to 6.0.0 via your installer.

Although the upgrade completed, the implementation failed because of a step that was skipped.

The proper upgrade path from 5.6.3 is to go to 5.6.4 and THEN to 6.0.2 (not 6.0.0 which is the path you subscribe).

 There is a lot of documentation about 5.6.3 not having (or having, still don't fully understand) the new Telerik (sp?) menu library.

 My upgrade went flawlessly, (but when i tried to access the site (godaddy attempts to update you from 5.6.1 to 6.1.5 directly which is against the upgrade path on the godaddy wiki) a black modal login box comes up and the site crashes on subsequent accesses.

 I upgraded via manual ftp up to 5.6.4 which is where I am today, and am TRYING to get to 6.x but am paralyzed with fear in doing so.

Im sorry, I have no experience with godaddy hosting (beyond reading various complaints on these forums about them), and dont have a godaddy account to use, so theres not much advice I can offer Im afraid.
