We recently upgraded from DNN 3.1 to DNN 7. In the old version, an admin account could edit user accounts (e.g. reset passwords etc,,) and more importantly change a users roles. We use the roles extensively and now my DB managers around the world cannot change this. It seems the only account that will let you change a role or edit an account is the Host account. It seems ridiculous that we use this account for an everyday function. Can anyone help me to be able to allow an Admin account to access the roles again?

What was your upgrade path? On what Version the issue caused the first time?  What SQL Server did you use?  Have you upgraded the SQL Server and migrated the Database? On what Windows Version did you running DNN 7?  Running the application pool on integrated mode and 64Bit mode only? Was the Login Name added to your database user?

Is the issue only on DNN Forum ?  You posted on the Forum Module Blog, so could it be your mean in the DNN Forum or Active Forums Management?

I believe this is a bug in DNN7.. I think it's fixed in one of the later DNN7. versions but I don't know a precise version number off hand.

I have it in a DNN7.01.00 site. It's only an irritation for me as I am both host and (the only) admin for that site.

Best wishes,

I am not sure if this is a bug.  I am personaly had no Login issues on 7.1.0 !  It could happend with the upgrade path, if the user did not follow the suggested upgrade path for older Versions !

Also it could happend if the SQL Server is not 2008 or higher.  Other szenarious can be that the SQL Login User is not added to the database Users Login Name after migrate the database, or wrong .NET and application pool settings.

Serious help can only provided if we have more infomation, of the upgrade path, and configuration.

Hi Matthias,

Thanks for your reply.

The upgrade path was:

from DNN. 3.1.1 to
4.95, 5.42, 5.68, 6.26, 7.02, 7.1

We upgraded this from 3 to t in one go. So the first time I experienced this was in DNN 7.1.

I am running SQL 2012. Yes, this was updated and we migrated both the application db and the DNN db to sql 2012.

As this is a shared server, I don't have all the other details.

Good point about the login name added to the database user. I will check that out.

So Matthias, using an Admin account, can you change users roles? I don't even have the little shield icon to click on as I do in the host account. I.e. the whole UI looks different on an admin account. I would really like to know if anyone has the ability to do this using an admin account.

 Thanks

Steve
