I have a production website that is currently running DNN Framework 6.2.8 that I want to upgrade to DNN 9.0. I have a "clone" of the production site that I am using to test the upgrade process. The "upgrade path" that I started testing with is something I found on the evotiva.com website.  It recommends 6.2.8 -> 6.2.9 -> 7.1.2 -> 7.4.2 -> 8.0.4 -> 9.0.0.

I have been able to successfully upgrade to 7.1.2 with relatively few problems. However, after numerous attempts at moving forward all upgrade attempts fail at DNN Framework version 7.4.2.  What happens is the upgrade completes with no errors or warnings in the "Upgrade Status Report".  All upgrade items complete with a "Success" message.  When I click the linke "Click Here To Access Your Site" I get a "Connecting..." message in the title bar of the browser and nothing more happens.  I have left the browser for more than an hour thinking I would eventually get an error message but I get nothing.

Since the DNN Framework version we are currently running is so old I tried uninstalling any of the modules that we are not using (i.e. DNN Survey) and upgraded modules we are using to the latest version supported by the DNN Framework version I was upgrading from.  I even started upgrading in smaller increments (i.e. 6.2.8 --> 6.2.9 --> 7.0.0 --> 7.1.0 --> 7.1.2 --> 7.2.0 --> 7.3.0 --> 7.3.4 --> 7.4.0 --> 7.4.1 --> 7.4.2). All attempts result in the same problem when getting to version 7.4.2 where the browser hangs at "Connecting".

I tried looking through the Upgrade Logs hoping to see a problem but I do not find anything indicating where the issue is.

I searched through the "Upgrading DNN Platform" forun at dnnsoftware.com.  I tried some of the suggestions there but still no joy :-(

I am hoping someone can point me in a direction as to where to look for the cause of this issue.

Thanks in advance.

your initial upgrade path was fine.
The issue could be a caused by an outdated skin or module. Which editor are you using?
did you unblock downloaded upgrade zip (in file properties) prior to unzipping the files contained?

Thanks Sebastian!  I did un-block the ZIP before installing and I uninstalled unused modules (both Core and 3rd Party) but perhaps I need to be more "aggressive" in uninstalling.  I also did upgrade old "Core Modules" to the most recent during my various upgrade steps.  Thanks for confirming the initial upgrade path is valid!!  I'll keep everyone posted.

Sebastian, One more thing... you asked about the HTML editor.  The site is currently configured to use "DotNetNuke.RadEditorProvider".  What Editor should I have set?  I can't find where I change the editor setting in DNN 7.1.2 which is the latest "working" version I can get to.

Thanks!
