I attempted the 7 -> 8 upgrade as detailed in the forum just before the DNN 9 webinar, trying to stay within one release of you guys. However, after I downloaded the DNN 8 upgrade zip, I followed the instructions, but it immediately choked unable to load the DefaultPage type. I could not spend a lot of time on it then, so I have come back now before yearend and made a couple more attempts but so far, no go. Once upon a time, I thought I could download the assemblies for an upgrade, but the DNN 8 upgrade package I have, has no bin and autobuild is dying it appears. I just went to look around some more on dnnsoftware.com for an already compiled DNN 8 I could play with , but now when I go to download all I can find is DNN 9.

Now i have even more questions:
Can I go direct from 7 to 9?
Can I download a functioning version of DNN8 with the assemblies already built, so I can just concentrate on what might be broken in the skin and/or my custom code?
or drop DNN8 and try building DNN9 locally, because there are no prebuilt assemblies ?
or do I need to work on building DNN8 locally some more since there is no direct upgrade path from 7?

Ax.Wx.,

DNN 8 had some breaking changes, so you should also test and upgrade all the extensions (modules, skins, providers...) you use. Most of the time it is the usage of Telerik controls in some modules. There are some extensions esp. from third parties that might not be compatible with DNN 8, so it is possible that you have to look for alternatives.

Happy DNNing!

An Upgrade package DEFINITELY contains the bin folder and DLL's. I'd guess that you d/l'd the package but did not unblock it - http://www.dynamisys.co.uk/ArticlesDo...

well that does indeed appear to be the case. I do not recall having to do this before, but I am on a different network now, perhaps something new was pushed out on the domain last year. Dunno, but I appreciate the heads up.

thanks
