Hi there, so my team tried executing an upgrade from 7.4.2 to 8.0.2 and afterward were getting errors and pages were not loading. I apologize, I was not on site and don't have any screenshots or the actual errors that that they were getting. So they pulled a restore for the DNN files, but did NOT do a restore of the SQL database. Now the main site functionality works, but there are issues when accessing various admin or host pages. For example, if I go to Host -> Extension I see 'A critical error has occurred. Please check the Event Viewer for further details.' However, our Event Viewer page is now blank. Some other Admin/Host pages are now blank too, and weren't previously.

I'm wondering if someone can provide guidance on next steps we might take for a fuller recovery. Might a restore of the SQL database be sufficient? She we run the upgrade again? Any other thoughts or ideas that may assist?

I think there is any number of things that might work and turn round to bite you later.

IMO unless you have *INCREDIBLY* compelling reasons to do otherwise there is only one right answer. Restore the DB and the folder to the same consistent state. Once you have that working, and NOT before, take another shot at the upgrade.

Given that you have already seen trouble with it, I would double check that you meet all the prereqs and that any third party modules are compatible with DNN8. Could be a good chance to clear out any dross.

Best wishes,

to be clear:DNN files and database belong together. They should be backed up same time and Need to be restored same time.
especially, you cannot restore just the files from a previous version after a failed upgrade.
