I am trying to upgrade from DNN version 9.00.02 to any of the subsequent versions, through to 9.2 and all are failing. I am doing this on my local PC where dnndev.me works perfectly, and I follow the exact steps outlined in Chris Hammond's video.

The problem with the update files is that the Bin folder appears to have older versions of dlls like System.Web.Mvc and my web.config is looking for version 5.3.2.0 which has been overwritten by the update to the older version 5.1.2.0. This causes the error:

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.

Even if I try to replace all these older dlls in the bin folder with the previous ones I then get error messages about  IWebCSharp files being out of date. How can I perform an update without having to change so many files? Previous updates all went smoothly. I don't want to update the production server until I can get the local one updated.

Can you lay out the steps you're going through to make sure you aren't missing a critical step somewhere? Or perhaps you're adding an unnecessary step by mistake.

Thanks for replying.
First I took a backup of dnndev.me. I downloaded the latest upgrade: DNN_Platform_9.2.0.366-777_Upgrade.
I extracted the folder, followed your steps to remove the file from the Install - Skin folder, then copied all contents from the upgrade folder and pasted into dnndev.me.
I then ran dnndev.me/Install/InstallWizard.aspx (it did not auto run as your video showed). That's when I got the error message:
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.
I then noticed that the version of System.Web.Mvc and other files had been replaced by older versions in the bin folder.

I can't think what steps I missed out or added?

Thanks

Hi Chris
Here are the steps again that I took:
Unblock the upgrade zip file
Take a copy of the website
Remove the skin file from the upgrade install folder
Copy and paste all files from the upgrade folder to the existing dnndev.me

Whether I run dnndev.me or http://dnndev.me/install.install.aspx the same error is displayed.

I have tried this repeatedly and continue to get the same errors:
FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=5.2.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.

It is still impossible to upgrade our website. Any suggestions please? My colleague is also trying and has had to give up.

Please help!

What you've posted here appears to be the proper steps. Is there any chance you had done any customizations that loaded a different version of the MVC DLLs into the bin folder, maybe those customizations are hard coded into the Web.config?
