As well as DNN upgrades we also distribute our own updates for our own modules. Currently we are creating packages of updated files, dlls, ascxs etc. to drop onto each website however we are looking to integrate and use DNN more to automate a lot of this process. We are looking at the packaging of modules option to drop them into the install folder etc.

One question we have at this stage is how our Web.Config changes could be automated so that when upgrading we don't have to manually open and edit the file. We need a way of inserting and updating nodes within the config file automatically, from a pre-developed script/batch file.

Anyone else have a method of doing this? Perhaps using the DNN install wizard available?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

I'm using following code snippet in manifest file (*.dnn) to update web.config file:

<component type="Config">
          <config>
            <configFile>web.config</configFile>
            <install>
              <configuration>
                <nodes>
                  <node path="/configuration/appSettings" action="update" key="key" collision="overwrite">
                    <add key="MyCustomKey" value="false" />
                  </node>
                </nodes>
              </configuration>
            </install>
            <uninstall>
              <configuration>
                <node path="/configuration/appSettings" action="update" collision="overwrite">
                  <add key="MyCustomKey" value="false" />
                </node>
              </configuration>
            </uninstall>
          </config>
        </component>
