First you need to specify, whether you would like to use DNN Community or Professional edition. You may setup the website locally first and transfer onto the production server later or start from scratch on the production server and install your custom skin and add all content. Be aware you need Windows Hosting with SQL Server, if you are using a hosting provider it should be able to setup the website properly.

Integrating templates (or "Skins" as the word in DNN is) is the same way as installing modules or other extensions. You do that under Host :: Extensions.

After installing them, you can change the (default) skin in your portal settings, or apply a specific skin to a page in the page settings.

Best wishes

what templates did you download? There are a couple of free DNN Skin packages, you may install by login in as Superuser ("host"). Make sure, you are in EDIT mode. Go to Extensions in Host menu and choose "Install Extension Wizard" from module action menu. Follow the steps.
