Did you try right clicking the project within VS, and selecting unload project. Then right clicking again the name of project and selecting edit the .csproj ?

It will not load to begin with.  I cannot access the project via the IDE.  I can edit the .csproj to my heart's content.  The template creates the project, but the project cannot be attached to the VS2010 solution or opened within VS2010.

I am using VS2010, so the .csproj from the template has to be upgraded -- that might be part of the problem, but the error deals with the IIS site.  DNN should be exposing something via its handlers at the URL the .csproj is trying to reference, but something is not connected properly, obviously.

By setting the useIIS property to false within the .csproj, I was able to build, package, deploy, configure, and use a custom DNN module.  I cannot debug it without attaching to a process, but I can live with that for right now.

Once it was loaded into the solution, I tried editing its properties and changing the web tab to enable IIS.  Upon trying to save the .csproj changes, I was prompted to create a virtual directory.  It erred when trying to do that, giving me an error of: "Creating a virtual directory is only supported on the local IIS server".  Apparently, it does not resolve the hosts file map of 'dnndev' to the localhost IP.

I am able to move forward, but consider the development environment to be less than perfect.  That is ok for now.

You should try to create a module w/o using the template to see if you have success.
