You know, I gotta echo the request for the module team to comment, but even more, DOCUMENT your work.  There is no way anyone would figure out how to add categories without reading this forum, and that's way too common in all the modules for DNN.  Subtle changes are added, for example the Feedback module changed in time to be compiled in current distributions, yet the features remain undocumented.  It's darned near impossible for a non-programmer to effectively use DNN for reasons like this.

I must also resubmit my frustration at how the module categories have been implemented here.  This was a very poor decision.

Additionally, I am highly disappointed at the lack of participation in this thread by this module's team.  Isn't it a requirement as a sponsor or team lead to participate in the forum?  At least say something in response to this issue.  I realize that this is easy to say from the sidelines, but there is a huge community out here that depends on the support of every project team.

On a side note, I hadn't checked out the newest version of this module until today.  I was getting ready to re-write some of this module to make it more compatible with our security needs, but I found that the main feature I was interested in changing has been done already.  Thanks for saving me the time, and aside from the categories brain fart - GREAT JOB!  :)

By the way...

The only way I have found so far that someone would know how to add categories to the feedback module is if they stepped through the source code and found line 147:

Line 147:
Dim aList As Lists.ListEntryInfoCollection = oLists.GetListEntryInfoCollection("Feedback_Categories")

However, this solution does not account for is someone wanted different categories for each module instance.  :(

Wow! .. this has to be the worst core module yet.

Has anyone managed to get it working sensibly?

  • Entry Name: Feedback_Categories
  • Entry Text:
    • Subscribe Newsletter
    • Unsubscribe Newsletter
  • Entry Values: ???

I'm after something like that.. but all I get is errors:

Conversion from string "Subscribe_Newsletter" to type 'Integer' is not valid. ---> System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format

What goes where? Who knows more about this?

And it also looks like the subject has a tickbox to enable it to be selected.. does that need another hidden list perhaps?

After some trial and error I put random numbers in as Entry Values and that at least stopped the error message.

The form now sends.. but the preselected category is not preselected for visitors, nor does it show up in the email that gets sent. I'm betting that there is another list that needs to be made.. possibly Subect_Categories??
