Hello,

I installed both DotNetNuke_04.05.01_Source and Survey_04.00.70_Source.zip successfully. There is no errors when build the whole solution and website.

But when I build the three pages (Survey, EditSurvey, Settings), I have the following 11 errors:

Error 1 Object reference not set to an instance of an object. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 1
Error 2 Validation (XHTML 1.0 Transitional): This name contains uppercase characters, which is not allowed. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 3 8 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 3 Validation (XHTML 1.0 Transitional): This name contains uppercase characters, which is not allowed. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 3 24 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 5 Validation (ASP.Net): Attribute values must be enclosed in quotation marks. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 8 22 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 7 Validation (ASP.Net): Attribute values must be enclosed in quotation marks. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 9 29 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 11 Validation (XHTML 1.0 Transitional): This name contains uppercase characters, which is not allowed. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 18 7 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 13 Validation (ASP.Net): Attribute 'resourcekey' is not a valid attribute of element 'ListItem'. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 20 19 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 14 Validation (ASP.Net): Attribute 'resourcekey' is not a valid attribute of element 'ListItem'. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 21 19 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 16 Validation (XHTML 1.0 Transitional): This name contains uppercase characters, which is not allowed. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 27 7 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 18 Validation (ASP.Net): Attribute 'resourcekey' is not a valid attribute of element 'ListItem'. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 29 19 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
Error 19 Validation (ASP.Net): Attribute 'resourcekey' is not a valid attribute of element 'ListItem'. C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx 30 19 http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/
How to solve those errors especially the one (Object reference not set to an instance of an object)?

Thanks!

If you close Visual Studio and re-open it and try again it should compile. Those other errors are warnings that are on the .ascx page and would not prevent a compile (only the .vb files are compiled).

As Michaels says, they're only warnings that the presentation pages (ascx) contain non-xhtml standard markup. These show up when you have the ascx page open in vs.net as it runs a background compiler on open pages so that it can highlight potential validation errors. You can disable this warning by right clicking on the ascx, going to "formatting and validation", clicking on validation and unchecking "show errors" . Note, theres a known issue in vs.net 2005 where this setting does not save unless you switch to design view. I'd recommend you ensure you have service pack 1 installed as it fixes this issue amongst many others.

Thanks for both of your helps!

I unchecked "show errors" and now there is one error left:

Error    1    Object reference not set to an instance of an object.    C:\DotNetNuke3\Website\DesktopModules\Survey\Settings.ascx    1

This error exists in all three pages. Does this error matter?

Thanks again!

Did you close Visual Studio and re-open it? The error should go away. Also the module should still run fine. Another option is to install it using the install version of DotNetNuke. See:
