I am running v 03.00.12 and I am curious if there is any risk in upgrading? I would like the new features and would like to be running the current version.  Am I safe to upgrade?

There should no problem with you upgrading but, as you should always do before upgrading any module or DNN, make a backup of your DNN install and of your database.
