I have recently started using UDT for a lot of my content entry, and have just embarked on a job that I feel it would be perfect for. I need to construct a file/document exchange, with the ability to add thumbnails and description pages for each file available.  I know UDT can do this easily.  However, I need to be able to allow or stop users from downloading files depending on their user role (i.e. Administrators can download all files, registered users can download some files, subscribed users can access a few files - the rights being set on the individual files).  I cannot see a way of restricitng access to files in this way.

Is it possible to have UDT do this?

If not, can anyone recommend an alternative.

You normally restrict access to files using the dnn filemanager by setting folder permissions

In XSLT you can also check whether a user is in a role or not: <xsl:if test="contains(/udt:Context/udt:UserRoles, ''|NameOfTheRole|">...</xsl:if>

Can I use this to hide the UDT Record if the User Role does not match the set permissions?

Ideally, I need to be able to hide records if they are not accessible to the person who has signed in.

Probably the best way to describe it is this:

I have a two files accessible through links in the UDT.  File 1 will be accessible by a role called "Subscribers".  File 2 will be accessible by everyone, no matter what the role.

Once a "Subscriber" logs in they will be able to see file 1 and 2, and gain access to them both.  If anyone that is not a "Subscriber" logs in, they will only see File 2 in their list in the UDT.

Doing a search will produce the same results, with a "Subscriber" seeing both files 1 and 2 in their search, whilst everyone else will only see File 2 if they were to search.

Is it possible that the role facility will allow me to achieve this?
