OK - this one on the surface seems stupid but make no sense. I have SMTP mail working just fine as does the feedback module.

But forum auto notifications fail with the following error: (note my next move will be to hack the code to give me more information - but wanted to post this here in case someone has already dealt with this)

So no-one has had this issue before - I simply do not believe it.

Anyways.... the stock implementation of the forum module attempts to send auto notification emails and private messages anonymously.

My ISP wisely rejects these attempts.

So I changed the forum to use the host SMTP settings to authenticate these emails.

NOTE: This is a CRL V2.0 framework solution! It will NOT run on framework V1.1. But you can hack the code to use the old system.web.mail object as you see fit to make it comply with V1.1 if you want...

Anyways... you can get the compiled module and the source I changed here: www.sdcsol.com/FTP/DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.zip

Who the messages come from (via email) depends on the settings in the forum configuration settings.

Drollins, please make sure you update your version you are distributing to the latest 3.20.9 because of some security fixes.

I'd love to but dont see where I can download the 3.20.9 version.

See Forum Downloads. There is no option to download version 3.2.09 - just 3.20.8

The version I've put out there is a re-compile of the 3.20.8 code to fix the email authentication problem only... with the few caveats I mentioned in my post.

Could you point me to where I could get the latest version and I would be very happy to publish that instead.
