Hi guys,
As I understand you are the developers of the ASP.NET Forums package used at my webhost provider. I am not making any claims but I think there are some very important features you might want to consider. These are basically to keep

a) The IP address used to register a new user
b) The email addresse of the user in question
c) Allow the Administrador to control which profile information is compulsory
d) Be able to keep information of users that are no longer subscribed.

The reason for this is that if one is involved in a legal query one is usually required to provide such information and nobody wants to be in legal troubles, one wants to cooperate but if the information is not stored as backup for the admin then all is gone.

I am not sure what ASP.NET forums you are using. It is possible it is Community Server, the former ASP.NET forums, or a DotNetNuke forum module which may or may not be this one (if it looks identical to this site right now, its probably this one)

If you are referring to this module, you should understand there is seperation between dnn core and the module. The module does not handle security/user registration because this is handled by the core. But to touch on some of what you mention:

a - Each post has an IP address attached to it in the db.

b - DNN requires an email address for anyone to register.

c - This is handled by the core.

d - Not sure what you deem as 'subscribed'

Thanks for the info. For what I was able to gather the forum in question was the "Former ASP.NET" forum software (for .NET 1.1). Don't know if the others support the IP storage because that is what I want to use when I upgrade the site.

By "subscribed" I meant any user who is subscribed as a member.

And as for the outcome of the issue, that lack of functionality in the forum nearly got me into a lot of trouble even though it was not even my fault or doing. I had to spend some money in lawyer fees just to get clear that what I could provide was indeed the only thing available and that I had nothing to do with it.
