if yóu want to hide view/edit at the top of the page, set cache time in module settings to "-1"

weird.  Setting cache to -1 hid the forum module/container itself, not the view/edit bar at the top.

I chose Manager Forum/Group. Then General Setting, In Authorized Edit Roles, I chose Registered User. But  "New Thread" button not appearing for registered users. Help me. Thanks.

grant "edit module" in module settings for all roles, that shall beable to add posts.

Thanks everyone for the answer.   I did grant the user group edit permissions on the module, and sure enough, the "New Thread" button appeared!   You are also correct Mitchel, that user group cannot go into the main forum maintenance screens.  Perfect!
