I was wondering how to modify the notification email which is sent out if a forum/thread is tracked, to include a link -  "you can reply to this post by clicking here"

I believe this is set in "_forumemail.xml file"

I t already shows a link "you can view this post by clicking here"  managed by the [PostUrl] property in the file

what would be the property for reply to this post?

thanks

There is no token available to do what you are attempting.

I am trying to do a couple of things that I don't think this version will allow.  (i'm running DNN 03.03.07).

  • I want to be able to allow users to get a notification email (if they want to receive it) of new posts in an EXISTING thread (currently I think you can only set it to receive emails on NEW threads)
  • I want to have the notification email come with a standard Subject that has the forum name in it, not the post subject
  • I want to change the name of the UPDATE button at the bottom of the posting screen to say "Save post" so that users unfamiliar with DNN will quickly understand that's what the update button is for (some don't understand that on first blush)

Is it possible to do these things in the current version, and if not, is it planned for the next?

Thanks

The tokens would have to be altered in the source (can't remember the file in that version) and then you would have to add the new tokens in the xml file. This has been completely changed in the version on the brink of release, so you may not want to invest the time on it now.

To answer the next post:

  • The current version allows users to subscribe to forums, which then allows for notification of new threads (which meets your requirement).
  • You can alter the .xml file to change the subject to a standard subject and use a token [FORUMNAME] (* not exacty sure of the token right now).
  • I believe this is changeable in the resx file (Forum_PostEdit.ascx.resx) but I cant' remember, if not it has been changed in the next version.
