When I type in 'angle' into a post the word doesn't show up, but a broken image file does. Can anyone help me with this issue?

It's a known issue, smily replacement via text is gone in future versions.

I finally fixed my problem!

I had to disable Smileys in Smiley Administration and where it says Smiley Gallery I used '(NoneSpecified)'.
